Don is an experienced bicycle tourist having taken trips from two days to two weeks since the 1970's. These trips covered portions of the Oregon and California coast, the coast range of California, and the central valley of California. Don has also been an avid transportation cyclist for over 25 years, using his bike to commute, run errands, and haul cargo. In 2009 Don felt that something needed to be done to increase the urban and touring cyclist's awareness of existing safe riding philosophies.  He also wants to help cyclists understand the full potential of health and enjoyment that can be found in transportation cycling and touring.  He trained and was certified by the League of American Bicyclists to teach the League sanctioned Traffic Skills classes. He also became a bicycle advocate with the Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates, a volunteer mechanic at the Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen, and is a member of the touring organization Adventure Cycling.
